Zinc plating buys time, not immunity. Fixings stored loose in an open tray on a site floor will show white rust in weeks — and a corroded thread changes its torque behaviour before it changes its look.
Three storage rules
- Off the slab — concrete wicks moisture; bins go on shelving, not the floor.
- Sealed, with desiccant — stackable bins with lids and a silica pack hold plated fixings for years.
- First in, first out — rotate stock so no carton sits at the bottom of the pile for a season.
The torque connection
Corrosion raises thread friction, so a torqued corroded bolt carries less clamp load than the wrench says. If a batch shows any white rust, treat its torque tables as void.
